Despite being only the 34th largest state in the U.S. by landmass, Ohio is the 7th most populous, largely due to it being the home of three of the most populous cities in the Midwest (Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati). The commerce and industry of these cities, along with other well known cities like Toledo, Akron and Dayton, make it likely that you may find yourself conducting some business in this state at some point. You will be well taken care of in this case, as Ohio boutique hotels abound to cater to your travel needs.

Arguably the most famous city in Ohio is Cleveland, home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which commemorates legendary musical acts like The Beatles, Elvis Presley and The Rolling Stones, among countless others. Being the home of this monument has led to Cleveland being nicknamed "The Rock 'n' Roll Capital of the World".

Aside from its musical tradition, Cleveland also has a long tradition of athletics. Cleveland fields a team in three major professional sports. Baseball's Cleveland Indians play at Progressive Field, formerly known as Jacobs Field. The Cleveland Browns play at the aptly named Cleveland Browns Stadium. Finally, the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA call the hardwood at Quicken Loans Arena their home. The museum and the sports teams are just a few of the attractions of Cleveland, which is also home to many Ohio boutique hotels.

All the way across the state from Cleveland's shoreline along Lake Erie in the northeast, is the riverside city of Cincinnati. Located right on the Ohio-Kentucky border and not far east of the border with Indiana, Cincinnati is sometimes called "The Tri-State". Like Cleveland, Cincy is also lively on the sports front, being the home city to the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals and the 2010 National League Central Division Champion Cincinnati Reds.

Cincy is a city that is rich in festivals, with celebrations going on virtually all year round. Some highlights include Oktoberfest, which is the largest such festival in the U.S., thanks to a sizable German population, Riverfest, a Labor Day weekend fireworks show that draws crowds in excess of half a million and the Fringe Festival, a twelve day celebration of the performing arts that is the largest such event in Ohio. Ohio boutique hotels are great places to stay while soaking up these Cincinnati highlights.

Because of their relative fame, one might assume that the aforementioned Cleveland and Cincinnati are the largest cities in Ohio, probably in that order. In fact, that title goes to the capital city of Columbus, which boasts a population greater than that of the other two combined. Located nearly in the dead center of the state, approximately equidistant from Cleveland and Cincinnati, Columbus boasts over 750,000 residents.

Like Cincy, Columbus puts on its fair share of events. As the capital, Columbus is the annual host of the Ohio State Fair, which ranks among the largest fairs in the nation. In downtown Columbus, along the waterfront, the city hosts the Columbus Arts Festival, as well as the Columbus Jazz and Ribs Festival. Columbus is also home to the main campus at the renowned Ohio State University and its popular sports teams, the Buckeyes.

There are plenty more reasons to visit Ohio boutique hotels than just these major cities, however. Many people visit the state to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky or, for the quirky traveler, the "Duct Tape Capital of the World" in Avon.

No matter where you are headed in Ohio, there is likely to be an airport nearby. The state has primary airports in Cleveland (CLE), Columbus (CMH), Dayton (DAY), Toledo (TOL), Akron (CAK) and Youngstown (YNG). There is also an airport serving Cincinnati, known as Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International, which is technically located over the state border in Kentucky. Regardless, it should just be a short trip from the local airport to your choice of Ohio boutique hotels.

Whether you are in town for business or pleasure, this state has enough going on within its borders to keep you occupied on your trip. With so much to see in such a relatively small state, you may even want to take a road trip, staying at a number of Ohio boutique hotels along the way.
